Pirates Change Name to Thunder

At the end of the season, the Pirates announced that they will re-brand. They changed the team name and the color they will wear.

At the Awards Ceremony tonight, captain Andrew McDonald announced that the new team name will be Thunder and they will wear black.

Charitable Work

Since 2008, the FHL has made an effort to help those less fortunate in the Pittsburgh area. Through our annual August charity tournament, the league has collected over one thousand dollars for the Mario Lemieux Foundation. These donations go towards cancer and neonatal research, as well as developing the Austin's Playroom Project. Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh (Root Sports) has sponsored this event the last few years.

The FHL has also donated toys annually to the UPMC Children's Hospital. Players bring an assortment of toys prior to every season which happens to start the week before Christmas.

The league's persistent philanthropy efforts have given the players a chance to give back in any way they can, to people in the surrounding areas who need it most. With the league being comprised of mostly college and high school students, the charitable efforts of these young men is unparalleled in the Pittsburgh area.
